This specialized training was developed and funded at the request of One-Call of Wyoming to meet the critical demand for skilled technicians who can accurately verify and mark underground utility lines. Whether you are a traditional student entering the building trades or a nontraditional learner looking for a high-demand career path that gets you out of the office, this program provides the technical mastery needed to prevent hazardous excavation damage.

Accreditation

Casper College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. This specific certification program is recognized by One-Call of Wyoming and Staking University, ensuring your credentials meet the industry standards required by major utility companies and excavators.

Transfer Opportunities

The Utility Locator certificate is a perfect “stackable” credential. These 2 credits are a core component of the Construction Staking and GPS Certificate and can be applied toward an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Construction Technology. By starting at CC, you benefit from small class sizes (limited to 8 students) and a 14:1 student-to-faculty ratio, ensuring you get the hands-on instructor time necessary to master complex signal interpretation. Program Resources
The courses we offer

ELTR 1545 is our five-day classroom course, four days for lecture and labs, and the last day for certification testing. The lecture portion consists of theory and practical field demonstrations. The lab portion consist of students using locating equipment to locate utility lines on the Casper College campus.

ELTR 1645 is our accelerated locator class and is designed for the experienced locator as we cover the same material as our ELTR 1545 and 1545 Hybrid courses in three days instead of five. We recommend you have two years of locating experience to take this class.

Bring clothes appropriate for the weather conditions. You will be outside 3/4 of the class time.

Equipment

Professionals currently working in the field may bring their own equipment provided it can do both conductive and inductive locating. Equipment will be provided for all students.

Clothing

Please bring clothes and footwear appropriate for the weather conditions.  Also, bring shoes or boots appropriate for walking long distances in all types of weather; winter, spring or summer.  Do not bring steel toed boots.  You will be indoors for 30% of class and outdoors for 70% of class.  You may also need sunscreen and sunglasses.

Course cost with the $100 for Staking University’s certification fee added to the tuition:

1.5 credits: Wyoming resident $320.50, WUE $400.00, out of state $635.50

2 credits:    Wyoming resident $394.00, WUE $500.00, out of state $814.00

Utility Locator Certification: 5-day classroom and lab
Fundamentals of underground utility location will be covered in this class including methods used to change the transmitter current levels and shape of the magnetic field, how to measure the magnetic field with the receiver, and how to produce a round magnetic field and verify depth. Students registering for ELTR 1545 are automatically enrolled in the corresponding lab.
