‘Trunks, Trees, and Leaves’ topic provides fun for April Saturday Club

“Trunks, Trees, and Leaves” is the fun topic for the April edition of Saturday Club on Saturday, April 4, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Every day, trees are part of our lives. All tree species have their own distinctive leaf shape, bark texture, and flower color, and we can use these to tell different trees apart, according to Russell Hawley, education specialist at the Tate Geological Museum on the Casper College campus.
Each participant will receive a “tree cookie” sectioned from the wood of an actual tree. Hawley will ask participants to consider what the wood reveals about how the tree grew, what happened to the tree during its lifetime, and how old it was when it died.
Finally, everyone will play the Leaf Card Game to brush up on their tree identification skills, then decorate their tree cookies. Students will be able to turn their tree cookie into a pendant to wear home.
The Tate Saturday Club is free and open to children ages 7-14. For more information, call the museum at 307-268-2447.
