T-Birds face Otero in semifinal Friday

The 14th nationally ranked and No. 1 seeded Casper College Women’s Soccer team will take on the No. 4 seeded Otero Rattlers on Friday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. on the Murane Soccer Field. The game is part of the 2023 Region IX and Northwest Plains District Women’s Soccer Tournament.

The T-Birds have several players on the team who have had outstanding seasons. These include Emma Goetz, Lander, who has 8 goals and 6 assists on the season, including six game-winning goals. Michelle Cave, Highland, Utah, has 9 goals and 5 assists on the year, including four game-winning goals. Macy Sickler, Smithfield, Utah, has 6 goals and 5 assists for the year. Jessa Lynn Cody has 6 goals and 3 assists on the season, including the game-winner vs the Western Wyoming Community College Lady Mustangs, who took the second seed in the Region IX tournament.

The T-Birds are currently 13-2-1 on the season and are on a 13-game unbeaten streak. The Rattlers are 10-2-1 on the season, having most recently beat No. 5 seed tournament seed Northwest College Trappers 6-2.

“On the defensive side, our backline and goalkeepers have a goals-against average of .69. We have outscored our opponents 42 to 11,” T-Birds Assistant Coach Jocelyn Norcross noted.

The winner of Friday’s game will play the winner of the Western Wyoming Community College Lady Mustangs, Laramie County Community College Lady Golden Eagles game. That game will take place on Saturday, Oct. 28. The winners of the semifinal matches will play in the Region IX Championship game on Saturday, Nov. 4. If Casper College is successful on Friday. The finals will be held in Casper.

The Region IX and Northwest Plains District Championship winner will represent the region at the 2023 NJCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship on November 12-18 at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas.
