The Casper College Continuing Education Department will host an information session for a spring 2020 trip to the island of Crete Thursday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m.

The free session will feature George Vlastos, who will serve as the trip’s private tour guide. Vlastos will answer questions and provide attendees with information about the specialized trip to the Greek island where his family still tends the olive farm that has been in the family since the 1450s.

The trip will take place from Feb. 26 through March 10, 2020. “This is a one-of-a-kind adventure that isn’t available anywhere else. We leave behind the tourist areas and travel to the Amari Valley to experience life in small villages. These villages haven’t changed much over the centuries,” said Laura Driscoll, trip leader and executive dean of continuing education at Casper College.

According to Driscoll, the trip will begin with time spent in the coastal cities of Iraklion and Hania. From there, the group will travel to “ … the picturesque Amari Valley to explore local sites and visit the Vlastos’ olive farm where the Vlastos family has been harvesting olives for centuries,” she said.

The trip will feature a multitude of sights and adventures, from spectacular ruins, art, museums, churches, monasteries, beach communities, and quaint villages. The trip will conclude with a stop in the Greek capital of Athens.

The cost per person double occupancy is $4,300. The cost includes round-trip airfare from Casper to Crete, hotel accommodations including breakfast, private group coach while on Crete, transfers between airports and hotels, six group dinners and one group lunch, and entrance fees to five museums in Crete. Seating is limited.

The information session will take place in the Walter H. Nolte Gateway Center in Room 223. For more information, contact Driscoll at 307-268-3401, 307-268-2733, or ldriscoll@caspercollge.edu. The Nolte Gateway Center is located on the Casper College campus.
