Casper College has hired Nate Macy as the school’s new assistant women’s basketball coach. Macy, who replaced Ryan Davis, will join Head Coach Dwight Gunnare today, Wednesday, July 5.

“I am very excited to announce that Nate has joined our women’s basketball coaching staff. Coach Macy comes with valuable coaching experience at the collegiate level, which includes two years as a graduate assistant at the University of Central Oklahoma and five years as the assistant coach at Northern Oklahoma College,” said Gunnare.

Since 2012 Macy has served as the lead assistant to Coach Greg Krause for the NOC Lady Mavericks out of Tonkawa, Oklahoma. The school competes at the NJCAA Division 1 level, and during Macy’s five years at the school, the basketball team made the regional two tournament four years in a row.

Macy is excited to come to Casper and coach the Lady Thunderbirds under Gunnare. “I am coming to a national power with lots of tradition and support,” he said. “I talked to several different coaches about coming to Casper College, and they all said I was going to a great school. Other coaches know Casper College and have a high level of respect,” Macy added.

Gunnare noted that during the interview process, Macy demonstrated qualities of a high-character individual extremely passionate about the game of basketball and the coaching profession. “His strong desire to become a member of Casper College and the Lady T-Bird basketball program also stood out,” said Gunnare, adding, “I am looking forward to the upcoming season and to work with Nate.”

Macy, who comes to Casper with his wife Rachel, hopes to one day be a Division 1 head coach.
