Casper College to Host Day of Percussion and Percussion Concert

The Wyoming Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and Casper College are presenting “The WYPAS Day of Percussion at Casper College” on Saturday, April 8.

The day will begin with percussion ensemble performances from 10 a.m. to noon from students from Natrona County High School, Kelly Walsh High School, Wheatland High School, Cheyenne South High School, the University of Wyoming, and Casper College.

Free clinics will be held in the afternoon with Dr. Lynn Vartan, percussionist, international performer, and educator who will speak on “Marimba, Electronics and Life in Music” at 1. At 2, Ron Coulter, Casper College percussion instructor, will speak on “Orchestral Accessories Fundamentals. The last clinic at 3 will feature Ed Breazeale, visiting assistant professor of percussion at UW, presenting on “Techniques for Interpreting Musical Arrangements on the Drum Set.”

The day will culminate with a concert at 4 p.m. featuring a set of pieces performed by Coulter, a set performed by Vartan, and a set performed by Breazeale.

Both the clinics and concert are free and open to the public and will take place in the Music Building on the Casper College campus.
