Volleyball 2019: Q and A: Meet Jovana Jeremic

One of five sophomores on this year’s Thunderbird Volleyball team, Jovana Jeremic´ is 5’8” and plays defense. She hails from Belgrade, Serbia, where she played ball for the Deveta gimnazija “Mihailo Petrovic´ Alas.”

As a freshman, Jeremic´played in 26 sets and had 36 digs.

Jeremic´’s favorite food is ketchup, and her favorite movie is “Lion.” Her most inspirational figure is her mom, and her favorite sports figure is Belgian professional soccer player Eden Hazard. When asked, Jeremic´ said the one-word description of herself is “open-minded” because “I understand that everyone is unique and different. I try not to judge and instead try to understand why people are acting a certain way.”

Q: Why did you choose your major?

A: I chose my major in media and communications because I wanted to do something creative. I love photography, but I am interested in all forms of media.

Q: What are your plans now and in the future?

A: After I graduate from Casper College, I hope to play volleyball in a four-year school, but whatever happens, happens. I want to move back to Europe and be closer to home, even though I like it here a lot. I want to get a job in the media.

Q: What are your goals for this year, both academically and athletically?

A: I hope to have at least a 3.0 GPA and hopefully, the team will go to nationals this year; that’s all I really want.

Q: Why did you come to Casper College, what drew you to Casper College?

A: The first reason I was drawn to Casper College is that former players told me that this volleyball program was a great place to start. American degrees are accepted all over the world, so that was a draw to come to the United States. I also wanted to be away from a big town. I love the mountains and winter. I love the snow and snowboarding and nature. I love the experience, the change. My parents were excited too, as they like what I like.

Q: What do you think of Casper College as a school and overall experience?

A: I like that Casper College isn’t that big. The smaller classes and Residence Hall allows you to meet more people. You have more friends, and you get to know your instructors. Overall, my experience at Casper College has been great.

Q: Would you recommend Casper College?

A: Definitely, because people are really nice. I never expected people to be as nice as they are here. People are so welcoming. It is a completely different culture here.
