Enjoy a dynamic lineup of classes for August 2026 learning at Casper College. “Make the most of the final stretch of summer by exploring a new interest, building a new skill, and making a splash with Casper College’s Community Education classes,” said Zhanna Gallegos, community education coordinator.
Classes offered in August include Plein Air: Capturing the Sky, Intro to DSLR, Canine Hiking Basics, and more.
In Plein Air: Capturing the Sky, instructor Jenn Johnson will help students build confidence in plein air painting as they capture the sky over Casper Mountain. Students will observe and interpret skies, clouds, and landscapes through art while experimenting with texture and brushwork, connecting with nature, and unwinding and recharging. All supplies will be provided for the class, and students are asked to bring a hat, sunscreen, a water bottle, an apron, and an easel if they have one. Plein Air: Capturing the Sky is open to all levels and will take place Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Photographer Karel Mathisen will provide a comprehensive introduction to digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras in Intro to DSLR. Participants will receive a thorough overview of their camera as they learn how to use it, understand the function of all its knobs and buttons, and why they matter. Participants will also examine different lenses and their purposes, as well as accessories such as flashes, shutter remotes, and tripods. Participants are asked to bring their DSLR to class. Intro to DSLR will be held on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 25 and Sept. 1, 8, and 15.
For dog owners who want to learn the fundamentals of hiking safely and confidently with their dog, Canine Hiking Basics is the perfect class. Taught by the staff of Sit Means Sit, the class covers essential gear, trail etiquette, conditioning, and how to prepare for varying terrain and weather. Owners will build the knowledge and skills to make outdoor adventures safe, fun, and rewarding for them and their canine companion. Registration requires one human per dog, a liability release, and proof of rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccinations. Owners should bring a 6-foot nonretractable or bungee leash, a flat collar, and a toy. The class will take place on Thursday, Aug. 27, from 5:30-7 p.m., at the Adventure Playground Gazebo at Crossroads Park.
