The new Casper College Veterans Center is now open in Room 2007 in the Walter H. Nolte Gateway Center. The new center, which began operations at the beginning of the fall 2022 semester, replaces the previous one located in the Goodstein Foundation Library.

The new center features two sections: a social side featuring a kitchen, TV viewing area, comfy furniture, and anything else that a student would need to connect with other student veterans on campus.

The other side has been set up to accommodate and promote academic excellence. Here students can sit, study, and do their homework. The space even features laptops and noise-canceling headphones for students to use.

There is also office space dedicated to the day-to-day operation of the center.

According to Nick Whipps, veteran and military student services coordinator, the location change was needed to accommodate the growth of the military-affiliated student population at the college and the school’s commitment to serving those students. “We were very grateful to have a space down in the library, and they were absolutely wonderful, but this (new) space is more centrally located on campus, easier to access, and about four times bigger than the old space,” he said.

Whipps and others worked hard for several months to make the new center a reality. “Without our community partners, the Casper College Foundation, and its board, the center would not have been possible. We have always had the support of the administration at Casper College, and I look forward to what the future brings for our military-affiliated students at Casper College.

The Veterans Center is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Nolte Gateway Center is located on the Casper College campus.
