Two Thunderbirds Ink Division I Letters of Intent
Casper College basketball coach Dan Russell announced Monday that it is official – two Thunderbirds have signed national letters of intent to play Division I basketball next year.
Andre Sands is a 6-9 center from the Bahamas who transferred to Casper for his sophomore season. He will play next year at Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas. Sands averaged 7 points and 5 rebounds and shot 52 percent from the floor this past season.
Hakeem Rogers led Russell’s team in scoring, averaging 17 points on the season. However, the 6-2 guard from New Jersey averaged 25 over the final 10 games. He will be playing next season at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn.
“We are very happy and proud of these two for their accomplishments and what they did to help our program this year,” Russell says. “We believe their best basketball is ahead of them and we are excited to see their success at the Division I level.”
The T-Birds just finished a 22-9 season under Russell, who completed his second year as head coach.
