Launch your career in public safety and healthcare with the Casper College Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program. As an EMT, you are the first point of care for individuals in their most critical moments, providing essential life-saving interventions and medical transport. Whether you are a high school graduate looking for a fast-paced career or a professional transitioning into emergency services, our program offers a comprehensive, health science-based curriculum. You will gain the foundational knowledge and technical skills required to respond to trauma, cardiac arrests, and medical emergencies.
All courses will give the student the ability to sit for the corresponding National Registry Cognitive Exam. Upon successful completion, students will obtain a National Certification to then apply for state Licensure. The Casper College EMT Certificate Program is inclusive of additional courses, thus making this track eligible for financial aid. Please reach out to Sandy Bruning for questions or further clarification.
This course is offered by special request of allied agencies and is not offered on a regular schedule. Please contact Sandy Bruning for questions.
Casper College is a national leader in “affordable excellence,” consistently ranking as one of the best values for higher education in Wyoming. While individual costs vary based on residency and course load, many students use a combination of federal grants, the Hathaway Scholarship, and other funding sources to help manage their educational expenses.

Earning your EMT certificate is the fundamental first step for many careers in healthcare and public safety.
Note: Entry into this program requires a clean background check. Successful completion of this certificate makes you eligible to sit for the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) cognitive and psychomotor exams, which are required for state licensure.
Our program adheres to the rigorous standards set by the Wyoming Office of EMS and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Casper College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
The EMT certificate is designed for immediate entry into the workforce, but it also serves as the mandatory prerequisite for higher-level training. Many of our students continue their education to earn an Associate of Science in Paramedicine or specialize in Advanced EMT (AEMT) training. Credits earned in this program provide a solid foundation for those later pursuing degrees in Nursing, Pre-Med, or Fire Science. Learn more at Transfer Agreements.
The Emergency Medical Technician is an entry-level, licensed or certified prehospital care professional whose primary responsibility and focus are to provide the initial care for people who access the emergency medical system. EMTs possess the basic knowledge and skills required to provide life-saving interventions and transportation to advanced-level providers as necessary.
The AEMT is the next level of progression of the licensed or certified prehospital care professional. An AEMT will focus on continued patient care from the EMT level while incorporating limited advanced treatment and care. Limited advanced treatment allows for enhanced patient care during a critical incident.
The IEMT is a Wyoming-specific licensure level that allows the AEMT to incorporate more knowledge, skills, and interventions into their clinical care. The IEMT is designed to enhance provider knowledge and skills in areas where EMS has not yet transitioned to the paramedic level of care.
I'm so glad I attended school here. When I first set foot on campus, I could tell that this was a wonderful environment.
