Casper College is pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Hartshorn, Ph.D., as vice president for academic affairs beginning July 1.

Hartshorn was one of three finalists for the position. He spent a day at the college, participated in a full-day interview, met with various groups, including students and faculty, and delivered a presentation at an open forum to help the college find the best fit.

“We had solid finalists to choose for the position, but in the end, Kevin’s background and experience made him the ideal choice for this role,” said college President Brandon Kosine, Ph.D. “I look forward to working with Kevin as we continue to align everything we do at Casper College with a ‘students’ first focus,’” Kosine added.

He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. A mathematician who views his discipline through the lens of the liberal arts, he stated that his leadership is based on the belief that data-driven logic and human-centered relationships are both essential to achieving institutional excellence.

Hartshorn is a seasoned academic leader with over 20 years of experience managing complex institutional changes in higher education. He has served in senior leadership roles at Central Community College, St. Cloud State University, and Moravian University.

A direct and results-oriented leader with over two decades of experience in faculty and administrative roles, Hartshorn has proven success in leading transitional change, fostering shared governance, and removing institutional barriers to student and faculty success.

Hartshorn and his wife are proud to call the Mountain West home. They have two children: one, a recent graduate of the Colorado School of Mines, and the other, a high school senior planning to start at CU Boulder this fall. Outside of the office, Hartshorn enjoys walking his English cocker spaniel and the craft of homebrewing beer and roasting his own coffee — pursuits that reflect his appreciation for the precision and care required for a job well done.
