The community is invited to have spooktacular fun and learn something new with community education classes at Casper College. Courses to be offered in October include “Art Café,” “Macabre Terrarium,” “Salsa Date Night,” “Halloween Makeup Bonanza,” and more, according to Zhanna Gallegos, community education coordinator.

Hank Washut will lead “Art Café,” where students will gain insight and inspiration from a meaningful conversation about art. Students will survey the Nicolaysen Art Museum’s art collection, explore its depth and diversity, and learn strategies and processes to appreciate the visual image. Students will also exchange ideas and engage in stimulating discussions about the art and the responses it generates, according to Washut. The class will be held Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 10 and 12, from 5:30-7 p.m.

With Halloween coming on, the timing is perfect to create your own “Macabre Terrarium.” Taught by Corinne Driscoll, participants will build their own terrarium, an eco-friendly living accent. According to Driscoll, as students build their terrarium, they will learn about aspects of each layer, design their mini-landscape, and experiment with decorative arrangements. Participants can also use hand-built clay accessories and other elements to make their terrarium spooky just in time for Halloween. The class will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 6-8 p.m.

Bring fun back into your life with “Salsa Date Night.” “This is a great opportunity to make this a night to remember as you and your partner, friend, or family member learn basic steps and simple turns and then enjoy dancing salsa together,” said Gallegos. Students are encouraged to dress to impress and wear comfortable shoes. Nonalcoholic refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served for this special night on Friday, Oct. 20, from 6-8. Taught by Manuela Ortiz, no prior experience is required, and two left feet are welcome!

Prepare to look your spookiest after attending “Halloween Makeup Bonanza” on Saturday, Oct. 21. Taught by the staff of the Nicolaysen Art Museum, students will learn makeup basics just in time for Halloween, including fabricating a scary appearance using realistic-looking wounds, bruises, and bite marks, or by creating eye-catching makeup for a fantasy character. Bringing a child 7 or older is not a requirement, but this is a kid-friendly class; however, anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Supplies will be provided, but everyone is welcome to bring their own makeup and prosthetics. The class will run from 10 a.m. to noon.

Community education offers noncredit courses for personal enrichment and lifelong learning for people 16 and older. To sign up or for more information on any of these classes, click here or call 307-268-3401. To learn more about personal enrichment workshops and classes, go here .
