Fall back into learning with courses from the Casper College Community Education Department. Classes to be offered in September include “Immigration in the Cowboy State,” “Polymer Clay Creatures,” “Firearm Spray Finish,” “Survival Signs,” “Knit or Crochet Fun Toys,” “Get Published,” and more.

“Autumn is a time of harvest, falling leaves, transition, and reflection. Embrace the change, embark on new adventures, and discover a novel passion,” said Zhanna Gallegos, community education coordinator at Casper College.

“Immigration in the Cowboy State” will allow participants to learn about the U.S. immigration system, the difference between nonimmigrant and immigrant visas, the most common visas, and how visas and family-based immigration enable people from around the globe to visit Wyoming. “People from around the world come to Wyoming to vacation, pursue higher education, work, and live,” noted Christine Jordan, instructor. “Immigration in the Cowboy State” will occur on Wednesday, Sept 13, from noon to 1 p.m.

Create an original sculpture in colorful and easy-to-mold clay in “Polymer Clay Creatures” on Friday, Sept. 15, from 4-5:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 16, from 9:30-11 a.m. Students will discuss polymer clay types, learn polymer clay techniques, sculpt whimsical creatures, and gain tips and tricks from the design process to creating larger projects. This fun class is taught by Summer Ross and is suitable for all ages.

Instructor Toyon Wiggs will cover the basics of a popular firearms finish, KG Industries GunKote, “one of the most durable and versatile firearms finishes currently used.” Students will explore surface preparation, application, curing, post-application treatment, and reassembly of the finished product. According to Wiggs, tools for most disassembly processes will be available for student use during the class. The class is open to those 18 and older, and the instructor must approve firearm choice before the first class. The class will run on Saturday, Sept. 16 and 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Students will explore sign language and its significance as a communication tool in “Survival Signs.” According to instructor Chelsea Elertson, participants will learn survival signs that aid in communicating during emergency situations, underwater, through windows and glass doors, and over a distance. The class is suitable for those working in hospitals, law enforcement, other public services, and parents. Prior experience in sign language is not required. The class will run Wednesday, Sept. 20-Oct. 25, from 6-7 p.m.

Expert crocheter Nancy Pawlowski will lead “Knit or Crochet Fun Toys” Thursday, Sept. 21-Oct. 12, from 1-2:30 p.m. Students will “Create a one-of-a-kind gift for Christmas, a baby shower, or another special occasion such as an adorable toy bear or other toys with baby-friendly embroidered features,” said Pawlowski. Those registering for the class need to know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, increase and decrease or a chain, single crochet, double crochet, and slip stitch.

For those wanting to get their written works published, “Get Published” will show how to start the publishing journey and submit literary creations to Chicken Soup for the Soul, CSS. Instructor Leslie Colburn will discuss different ways of publishing, how to create a proposal, read stories accepted by CSS, and provide constructive feedback on students’ writing. “Whether you have a story in mind or your paper is blank, this class gets your creativity flowing,” said Colburn. “Get Published” will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 5:30-7 p.m.
