Beginning with the fall 2025 semester, a new certificate in graphic design will be offered at Casper College.

The certificate, requiring 31 total credit hours, focuses on essential studio practices. It covers foundational skills, including two-dimensional design, color theory, software applications, digital photography, design portfolio preparation, and training in the Adobe Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

“The graphic design certificate is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to thrive in the world of graphic design, whether they plan to launch their own business or contribute to a team,” said Jerry Hawkes, interim vice president of academic affairs. According to Hawkes, the certificate caters to students from any major who aspire to launch their entrepreneurial vision or those already employed and looking to gain new and valuable skills.

A graphic design certificate can lead to careers in graphic and digital design, web and UI/UX design, marketing and advertising, publishing and print media, motion graphics and multimedia, and freelance and entrepreneurship.

”The fundamental purpose of this program is to provide a foundation in graphic design, specifically tailored for those already engaged in the community workforce who may be tasked with graphic design, marketing, or social media,” said graphic design instructor Cynthia Harrison. Those who earn a graphic design certificate will be equipped “ … with the necessary skill set to excel in these endeavors, enabling them to successfully tackle their responsibilities,” Harrison added.
