Pre-Veterinary

Veterinarians fill a unique niche in the medical field as health care professionals whose patients are pets, farm animals, research subjects, and service animals.

What is veterinary medicine?

The goals of veterinary medicine are to practice preventive medicine to keep animals in good health, to diagnose and treat sick animals, and to counsel owners, community leaders and the public about maintaining the health of animals.

Veterinarians also provide for the health of the human population by controlling animal diseases such as rabies and mad cow disease. Also, they inspect our meats, fish and milk to keep these foods safe for us.

The pre-veterinary program will give you a solid introduction to the concepts, terminology, and current advances in this field.

What are the features of Casper’s program?

The pre-professional education pathway

This is a transfer program. What does that mean? This Associate of Science (A.S.) degree program prepares students for entry into a bachelor’s degree program and/or for application directly into their identified area of professional schooling.

How to become a veterinarian

Casper College’s pre-veterinary program meets the general requirements for admission into the school of veterinary medicine at Colorado State University or Washington State University. Admission requirements vary with each professional school.

CC encourages students to begin a dialogue with their intended transfer schools as early as possible. Your academic advisor will assist you with this process, but it is the student’s responsibility to verify required courses and the application process for the school you are planning to attend.

Like most medical professions, it takes a great deal of training to be a veterinarian. You can start that training now at CC.
