New March classes feature Easter eggs, beads, self-defense, tree care, and guitar

Discover the art of Ukrainian Easter eggs. Suitable for those over 10 years of age, Ukrainian Easter Eggs will guide participants on how to craft their own beautiful keepsake just in time for Easter. During the class, participants will explore the history of the Slavic spring tradition of crafting Ukrainian Easter eggs, or pysanky. The eggs feature traditional folk designs created using a wax-resistant technique. “Children over 10 are welcome to register and attend this class with a registered adult,” said Gallegos. The class, taught by Lisa McDonald, will be held on Thursday, March 12, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Learn how to turn discarded magazines into beautiful, one-of-a-kind paper beads with Gina Stephens. In Paper and Decoupage Beads, students will explore the art of decoupage by layering paper to create eye-catching patterns and textures. The beads will then be finished with a glaze for extra shine and durability. Supplies will be provided in this class, which is suitable for all skill levels. The class will be held over two Saturdays, March 14 and 21, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
In Self-Defense Foundations, attendees will learn essential self-defense techniques, from basic moves to effective escape strategies. “Protect yourself in real-world scenarios, reduce vulnerability, and build confidence while enhancing physical fitness and mental resilience,” said Daniel Valk, instructor. Students will develop situational awareness, verbal defense skills, and the use of everyday items for self-protection while understanding the legal aspects of self-defense. The five-week class will be held on Monday evenings from 5:30-7:30, March 16 through April 13. Attendees are asked to bring a cup, a groin protector, a water bottle, and a mouthguard if desired, and to wear gym clothing.
Casper Tree Care focuses on proven strategies for protecting trees in Casper’s dry climate. Master Gardener Program Coordinator Donna Hoffman will show students how to protect and preserve trees facing drought stress with essential maintenance techniques. According to Hoffman, students will discover practical care strategies to reduce risks and costs associated with tree failure, ensuring these valuable long-term investments thrive in their landscape. The two-week class will be held on Thursdays, March 19 and 26, from 6-8 p.m.
Finally, Fingers to Frets covers guitar basics, including chord theory and progression, on Thursday nights from March 26 through April 30, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Taught by Lionel Adams, the comprehensive course is suitable for both beginners and advanced players. “Participants with experience will learn songwriting techniques and explore improvisation,” noted Adams. All participants are asked to bring an acoustic guitar, a pick, a tuner, paper, a pen, and highlighters in green, yellow, pink, blue, and orange to class.
