Casperite Steve Loftin has established an endowment fund at Casper College to provide a $1,000 annual scholarship and support two areas of the college.

The Brad Loftin and his “Papa” Lloyd Loftin Fund was created in memory of two people: Loftin’s son, Brad, and his father, Lloyd, former president of Casper College.

“Brad died early at 34. He loved making loud music since he was in fifth grade. He was fascinated by the DJ at his little school dances. He wanted to be a sound man for bands he loved,” Steve recalled.

Brad traveled to Arizona to learn sound engineering. “There needs to be an understanding of what combinations of equipment will make the performer sound their best. This program will need new sound equipment constantly,” said Loftin.

Brad called his grandfather “Papa.” According to Loftin, his father, Lloyd Loftin, had a full and fruitful life. “He came to Casper College as a biology professor and was curious about all living things, from orchids to horny toads. I always remember that when I gave him a hug when I saw him after work, I smelled either potting soil or formaldehyde,” Steve noted.

The Loftin Life Science Center … “needs students to thrive with help from this fund. The department may need scholarships or equipment to be able to teach the sciences to students,” said Steve.

The scholarship portion of the Brad Loftin and his “Papa” Lloyd Loftin Fund will be for $1,000 per year, with half distributed in the fall semester and the other half in the spring semester. The student selected for the scholarship must have a 2.0 GPA, be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours, and be pursuing a degree in auto or diesel mechanics, engineering, or the Art of Sound Design Certificate at Casper College.
