“A Night at the Opera” is the name of this year’s Casper College Band Concert on Friday, March 6, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Wheeler Concert Hall.

The Casper College band concert will feature a variety of lively tunes from well-known composers, according to Joshua R. Mietz, DMA, band director and music instructor.

The concert will feature two John Philip Sousa compositions: “Pet of the Petticoats” and “Transit of Venus.” Other pieces include Richard Wagner’s “Liebestod” from “Tristan und Isolde,” Georges Bizet’s “Carmen Fantasy for Wind Ensemble,” and a famous piece by Pietro Mascagni, “The Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana.”

Percy Grainger’s first original work for band, “Children’s March: Over the Hills and Far Away,” and his later “Irish Tune from County Derry” will be performed, followed by “Over the Moon” by Frank Ticheli. This piece has been called “an instant classic.”
