Casper College Collegiate Chorale and College Band perform Nov. 7

The Casper College Collegiate Chorale, Casper College Chamber Singers, and the Casper College Band will be in concert on Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. in Wheeler Concert Hall.
Under the direction of Zachary Freeman, DMA, and Joshua R. Mietz, DMA, the concert will feature special guests Veronica Turner, Nicole Reiner, and Zachary Tolman.
Turner, a soprano, will be joining the combined choirs for Franz Josef Haydn’s “Missa Brevis No. 7 in B-flat,” nicknamed the “Little Organ Mass,” which was written for church but is full of charm and elegance. “You’ll hear lively, joyful music mixed with moments of reflection. The organ plays a special solo in the Benedictus. It’s a perfect blend of reverence and beauty,” said Mietz. Turner teaches applied voice, music appreciation, and music fundamentals at Casper College.
Reiner currently teaches flute and entrepreneurship classes at the University of Wyoming, where she also oversees the Arts Entrepreneurship Certificate program. She will join the College Band for “Night Soliloquy, described as a “… lyrical solo for flute and band (that) showcases … the instrument’s expressive capabilities.” “Nicole Reiner’s flute solo evokes introspection and late-night reverie with poetic grace,” noted Mietz.
Tolman has over a decade of experience teaching music across multiple grade levels and ensemble types, including band, jazz band, marching band, orchestra, and guitar. Tolman will be featured with the College Band on “Persuasion.” “With Zachary Tolman on alto saxophone, the piece is a suave and expressive ballad that captures the charm of midcentury jazz with effortless sophistication,” Mietz said.
The audience will be treated to the Collegiate Chorale performing four selections, while the Chamber Singers will perform three in addition to the Combined Choirs presentation with Turner. Both the Collegiate Chorale and the Chamber Singers are under the direction of Vreeman.
The College Band, under the direction of Mietz, will perform seven selections, including the world premiere of Ben Blessing’s “Wildhorse Canyon.” “’ Wildhorse Canyon’ is a programmatic work capturing the vast landscapes and untamed energy of the American West. Composer Ben Blessing’s vivid orchestration and imaginative motifs take listeners on a sonic journey through open plains, rocky terrain, and the thrill of some of the landscapes he loves best,” said Mietz.
