July classes through Casper College Community Education include Caregiver Bootcamp, Gelli Prints Junk Journaling, Painting with UV Resin, Nature in Occupational Therapy, Gemini AI in Depth, Parenting with Love, and more.

“Casper College’s Community Education program is excited to offer a diverse lineup of engaging new classes this July. Summer’s longer days offer the perfect opportunity to break routine, try something new, and expand your horizons,” said Zhanna Gallegos, community education coordinator. “It’s a great way to move beyond the usual ‘I never have time’ excuse.”

Caregiver Bootcamp will run on Monday evenings from 6-7, July 7 through Aug. 4. Taught by Carley Applegate, participants will explore essential caregiving topics and acquire skills to support their caregiving journey. According to Applegate, there are basics that every caregiver should know, including vital sign metrics, medication management, safe transfers, home exercises, and the details of important legal documents for aging individuals. A section will also be included to help prevent caregiver burnout.

Rachel Savage will show students how to get creative and have fun with recycling in Gelli Prints Junk Journaling Tuesday and Thursday, July 8-15, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Students will learn how to transform junk mail into journal pages using the Gelli printing method and natural elements, and explore how to add visual interest to their handmade journal by layering colors and textures. According to Savage, selected supplies are provided, but students are asked to bring scissors, interesting papers, cards, fabric, plant samples, and other desired ephemera.

Painting with UV Resin will explore the unique technique of working with UV resin. Instructors Danielle Wilson and Katie Lijewski will introduce students to various resin types, teach them how to select the right type for each project, and provide hands-on experience with alcohol inks, mica powders, pigments, and add-ins. “Everyone will create a beautiful UV-coated acrylic night light using this lesser-known method,” said Wilson. The class is suitable for all levels, and supplies and tools are provided. The class will be held on Wednesday, July 9, from 6-9 p.m.

Discover nature-based occupational therapy and alternative community resources in Nature in Occupational Therapy. “(Students) learn how integrating nature into therapy can improve engagement and outcomes and aid in processing personal experiences,” said instructor Genie Hensley. The class will feature therapeutic experiences, including a walk through a nature labyrinth and painting a rock with a challenge on one side and a strength/strategy on the other side. The rock will serve as a reminder to each student of their journey. Nature in Occupational Therapy will be held on Saturday, July 12, from 9:30-11 a.m.

Learn about Google’s artificial intelligence product, Gemini, in Gemini AI in Depth. “Students will explore the architecture, capabilities, and applications of this cutting-edge technology,” said Michael Stute, instructor. In addition, students will learn how Gemini excels at understanding and generating text, code, and images and how it can be applied to tasks ranging from creative writing to tackling complex problems, said Stute. Students are welcome to bring their laptop or tablet to the class, which will run on Saturday, July 12 and 19, from 10-11:30 a.m.

Parenting with Love will show participants that with the right strategies, parenting can bring joy and fulfillment through effective methods to raise kids and enjoy the parenting journey. “Build your child’s self-confidence by sharing control, offering compassion, and applying consequences,” said instructor Sarah Farrer. Parents will learn to foster problem-solving and critical thinking while strengthening the adult-child relationship. Parenting with Love will take place on Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m., July 29, and Aug. 5 and 12.
