Casper College is hosting the Rocky Mountain Cybersecurity Symposium on June 18-20 in Liesinger Hall on the Casper College Campus. A preconference workshop featuring two tracks will be held June 16-17.

First Track: “Next Level OSINT”

The first track for the preconference session is titled “Next Level OSINT.” The two-day event will be led by Mishael Khan, who, according to his biography, is … “a highly respected figure in cybersecurity, with expertise in ethical hacking, Open Source Intelligence or OSINT, social engineering, and privacy.” According to Kent Brooks, director of information technology at Casper College, the workshop will take participants through advanced online investigation techniques inspired by hacking methods to take each participant’s skills to the next level. “Whether you’re performing background checks, researching competitors, hunting missing persons or criminals, getting leverage on lawsuits, or becoming a better ethical hacker, with every technique explained extensively. This course will enhance your OSINT skills beyond your expectations,” said Brooks.

Second Track: Cybersecurity and Education

The other preconference track features workshops targeted toward educators and will feature three sessions and a data ransomware tabletop. The first two sessions, “AI in the Classroom and Beyond: Understanding the Risks and Realities of Generative Tools Part I and II,” will be led by Renee Griffith, director of the Casper College Center for Teaching, Brian Clark, Casper College information technology network coordinator, and Brooks. Part I will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and Part II will run from 1-4:30 p.m.

The third session, “Cybersecurity Awareness Workshop for Educators,” will be held July 17 from 8:30 to noon. The workshop will look into a variety of cyber threats targeting schools, including phishing scams, ransomware, and the misuse of student data. The workshop will be taught by Tim Walsh, senior vice president and corporate strategic advisor for the United States’ Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

That afternoon, the final session, “Save the Data Ransomware Tabletop,” will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Rubrik, 954 Consultants, and Casper College encourage all public sector employees to join their peers to experience a ransomware attack and work with pros to strategize real-world solutions in a fully immersive tabletop exercise.

“These four sessions are dedicated to the cybersecurity concerns of students and the role of educators in addressing these issues with the latest safety protocols and technology,” said Brooks.

The Rocky Mountain Cybersecurity Symposium will feature a variety of speakers and sessions.
