The family of the late Catherine Murray has established the Catherine A. (Rochelle) Murray Scholarship. The award will be split between the fall and spring semesters for one student, with the amount determined by the Casper College Scholarship Committee based on earnings from the $15,000 endowment.

To qualify, the student must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, be enrolled in six credit hours, be an early childhood education major, and have financial need. Preference will be given to Natrona County residents who have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form.

James Murray said the scholarship was created to support Wyoming students pursuing a degree in early childhood education, particularly those interested in working in a preschool or daycare that involves families in their children’s learning journey.

“Cathy had a lifelong passion for early childhood education and, throughout her career, was committed to engaging learning environments that encourage children to explore, use their imaginations, and participate in both social and self-directed play,” he said.

“Cathy always said that children who feel supported are more inclined to develop trust, empathy, and strong communication skills, leading to a positive self-image and resilience in facing social challenges as they grow older,” said Murray. “Family engagement also helps parents and caregivers better understand and support their child’s needs.”
