On Thursday, Feb. 29, the University of Wyoming at Casper, in collaboration with Casper College and the Chamber of Commerce, is presenting its inaugural Career Exploration and Advancement Event Leap Into Your Future.

Leap Into Your Future is “… designed to not only connect job seekers with potential employers but also to help give potential job seekers tools and tips on how to get hired and progress in their careers, said Rochelle Green, Ph.D., director of the Bachelor of Applied Science Program at the University of Wyoming at Casper.

“Instead of the focus being on ‘these are the jobs available right now,’ we wanted the focus to be more exploratory and what opportunities could be available and how to advance,” said Green.

“Our team talked with the dean of the UW College of Business and the Chamber of Commerce and told them that we believe there’s a big void for people when they’re looking for a job,” said Green. “We really discussed the need to help people know what careers are available and how they can advance their careers within those organizations. What do they look for in a resume? What are the red flags to avoid when applying? They can also share what jobs they have,” she added.

According to UWC, 50+ businesses are involved in the Leap Into Your Future Career Exploration and Advancement event, all of which are excited by the opportunity to explain the inner workings of their company to potential employees. Businesses will also be explaining to attendees what they look for in résumés and cover letters, and Casper College Career Services will have a table at the event to work with attendees on composing résumés and cover letters. Resume and cover letter help is also available before the event by contacting a Casper College Career Services adviser at 307-268-2089,” said Ashley Bergeron, career services coordinator.

Rachel Chadderdon, dean of the Casper College School of Business and Industry, noted that in addition to the excellent services offered by UWC, CC has a variety of resources available to help people to explore and advance in their careers, including online and in-person classes, certificates, and degree options.

The event is free and open to anybody in the community who wants to connect with businesses from around the state, representing Wyoming’s workforce,” Green said.
