Sharman reaches historic 500 wins as T-Bird coach
Casper College Lady T-Bird Volleyball head coach Angel Sharman hit a historic milestone when she reached her 500th win at the college.
The 500th win came during an away game where the T-Birds prevailed over the Western Wyoming Community College Lady Mustangs 3-0.
“Five-hundred is enormous, huge,” said Paul Marble, athletic director. “This is a super milestone for Casper College and for Angel, who has carried the torch of this institution with a history of excellence and winning,” he added.
When asked what it meant to have 500 wins at one school, Sharman replied: “I really don’t know how to answer this question. It takes a lot of people to make that happen. I’m just grateful that I have the opportunity to do what I love to do every day. I can’t remember every single game, but I can remember a lot of memories that those games had in my life so far.”
Sharman, who is known as a very competitive person, noted that volleyball was a demanding sport and took not only skill but physical skill. “The game is always changing with rules and techniques, so I am always learning, and it’s never boring. Coaching volleyball to players that love it as well is special, and if it is done correctly, it is great to watch,” she said, adding, “volleyball just has a lot of details to make it flow, and that just keeps me hungry in the sport.”
For Sharman, it is all about the athletes that she recruits each year. “Keeping a ball from hitting the floor while someone is hitting the ball at you 70-80 mph and throwing yourself on the floor takes grit,” she said. Sharman noted that the players need to have a competitive spirit and a great work ethic. “I am honored and proud of every single one of them. They put a lot of hours, sweat, and dedication into the program. It is so amazing watching these ladies succeed on the court but also watching them finish college and being successful in the professional world.”
