The Casper College Music Department is calling all community musicians who would like to play in a musical group to join the Casper College Band and/or the Casper College Jazz Ensemble.

No audition is necessary to join the Casper College Band. “All high school students, Casper College students, and community members who feel they can keep up will be welcome,” said Joshua R. Mietz, D.M.A.

According to Mietz, who directs the college band, the repertoire this year will include Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait,” Holst’s “Suite 2,” and “Awakening” by Kimberly Archer, among others. Rehearsals will be held every Monday evening from 7-9:30.

The Casper College Jazz Ensemble, also under Mietz’s direction, will meet for rehearsals every Wednesday from 7-9:30 p.m. and an audition is required for both high school and Casper College students. Community members who have played with Casper College bands in the past, have a degree in music or are in the Casper Municipal Band do not need to audition.

“My goal is to create the largest ensemble(s) possible. If I could have 100 people enrolled in the college band, I would be very happy,” Mietz said.

Registration is required to join both groups. To register, or for more information, contact Mietz at 307-268-2246 or joshuamietz@caspercollege.edu.
