Casper College instructor Art Washut has been named the Faculty Member of the Year for 2018-2019 by the Wyoming Association of Community College Trustees.
“Art is a recognized leader on campus. His passion for teaching really shows in how he builds relationships with students and the effort he goes into creating worthwhile and real-life learning opportunities for them,” said Darren Divine, Ph.D., president of Casper College. “Art is truly a master instructor and the enrollment in his program is testament to the value students place on his knowledge and instruction, said Brandon Kosine, interim vice president for academic affairs.
In addition to his teaching duties as a criminal justice instructor, Washut is involved with students outside the classroom. “(Art) helps the students sell chocolate roses for a Valentine’s Day fundraiser for the Criminal Justice Club, takes students to the Police Academy in Douglas, (Wyoming), and facilitates ride-along activities with police officers in Denver,” said Kosine. “Art also collaborates with local law enforcement each year to do a Holiday DUI Awareness Campaign at Wyoming Medical Center. Art does all of this because he wants to provide a positive, real-life experience for his criminal justice students,” Kosine added.
Washut, who formerly worked for the Casper Police Department, began teaching at Casper College following his retirement from the police department in January 2000.
