Percussion Events and Concerts Through November at Casper College

The Casper College Percussion Department will present a variety of events and concerts through the end of November.

The first event is the Second Annual New Music Day on Saturday, Oct. 27 with guest composer-performers Matt Smiley and Ryan Seward both of Denver. The day will begin in the afternoon with two presentations and a workshop. “The New Discipline: Composer as Auteur” by Seward will run from 2-2:50 p.m. followed by “A Brief History of 20th Century Text Scores” by Smiley from 3-3:50.

From 4-4:50 a workshop conducted by Seward and Smiley will look at “Concepts and Exercises for Improvisers.”

The day will culminate with a concert at 7 p.m. featuring Seward, Smiley, Casper College percussion instructor Ron Coulter, adjunct bass instructor Jo Asker, and the Casper College Percussion Group under the direction of Coulter.

On Monday, Nov. 5, Professor Tarcisio Braga from the Amazonas State University in Manaus, Brazil, will present a lecture-recital on Brazilian percussion at 7 p.m.

The final event will be on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. when the Casper College Percussion Group presents its annual fall percussion concert.

All events and concerts are free and open to the public and will take place in the Wheeler Concert Hall located on the Casper College campus.
