The Casper College Agriculture Department is hosting its 38th Annual Lamb and Pig Sale on Saturday, April 7.

The Casper College Agriculture Department is hosting its 38th Annual Lamb and Pig Sale on Saturday, April 7 starting at 1:30 p.m., in the Casper College Grace Werner Agricultural Pavilion on the Casper College campus. Viewing of the animals up for sale will begin at 11 a.m.

According to Heath Hornecker, Casper College agriculture instructor, 40 lambs and 40-45 pigs will be up for sale at the auction. “These are young animals that will be raised for 4-H and FFA projects. Folks buy these animals and then feed them to their optimal weight,” said Hornecker.

The grand champion carcass lamb at the Montrose County Fair, the reserve champion pig at the Wyoming State Fair Jackpot Show, and the reserve champion pig at the Wyoming State Fair were all sold in last year’s sale.

Consignors attending the auction come from Wyoming and Colorado. Lamb consignors scheduled to attend are Bolt Club Lambs and DeLong Club Lambs both from Colorado and Burch Club Lambs, Carlisle Club Lambs, Casper College, Dona Livestock, Griffith Club Lambs, Hornecker Livestock, Lee Club Lambs, Meyer Club Lambs, Stewart Club Lambs, and Triple G Show Lambs all from Wyoming.

Pig consignors scheduled to attend are Black Show Pigs, 307 Genetics Show Pigs, Burkett Show Pigs, Casper College, and Custis Show Pigs, all from Wyoming.

According to Hornecker, the annual auction is used as a learning experience for the Casper College Agriculture Club members, who are responsible for the set-up and handling of the event. Proceeds from the auction will go to the club to help with general and travel expenses.
