CC’s Miller Wins Top Speaker Award
Casper College Forensics team member Scarlett Miller won the top individual speaker award at the recently held 35th Annual Pioneer Trails Tournament.
“In honor of her career of service and upcoming retirement, the tournament named the top individual speaker award after Gretchen Wheeler, former director of forensics,” said Jordan Johnson, assistant director of forensics at Casper College. Wheeler presented the award to Miller, a sophomore political science major. “We couldn’t think of a better way to honor Gretchen’s legacy than to make her a permanent fixture of the tournament,” said Doug Hall, director of forensics.
The tournament included six other two and four-year schools from Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska. The tournament offered 11 individual events and two formats of debate. In addition to competing, the Casper College team also helped to run the tournament. “We’re very proud of the team. They were able to keep their focus as competitors, and were ready to help us with anything we asked of them,” Johnson said.
