Both Casper College basketball teams will take to the court on Wednesday, Sept. 30 as part of the Third Annual Basketbash set to begin at 8 p.m. at Erickson Thunderbird Gym.

“Colleges all across the nation have long standing traditions of kick-off events for their upcoming basketball seasons. Most of these events are called midnight madness and Basketbash is our version here at Casper College. We are starting at 8 p.m. because we want everyone to come out and participate in the fun,” said Nicholas Whipps, student activities coordinator at Casper College.

According to Whipps the event will be filled with games and prizes. At 8 p.m. the Casper College students and the pubic will be able to meet the team members from both the men’s and women’s teams. Following the meet and greet, “we will have a trick shot competition as well as a cheer pep rally. From there we will introduce the men’s and women’s teams. After that the women’s team will have a 20-minute scrimmage, then the men’s team will have a 20-minute scrimmage,” Whipps said.

Other events during the night will include “a hot shot competition where we will pair up students with athletes from the women’s team. Then we will have a dunk contest where the crowd will be able to participate and we will have three special guest judges,” said Whipps.

The Third Annual Basketbash is free and open to the public and snacks and refreshments will be served. “We really want to get the students fired up for this upcoming basketball season, as well as the community. The most important thing is for people to come out, have fun, meet the T-Birds and get excited about the new season,” added Whipps.

The Erickson Thunderbird Gym is located on the Casper College campus.
