Job Summary and Responsibilities:

Summary:
The position of KEY Camp Lead Counselor coordinates and oversees camp programs, assists with the training of camp staff, and supports instructors, camp counselors, and campers. The Lead Counselor is required to stay overnight in the Residence Hall and is responsible for the supervision of campers and counselors at all times.

Responsibilities:
The Lead Counselor is responsible for the overall camp experience and managing day-to-day operations including camp events, activities, meals, attendance, and transitions. The Lead Counselor leads and motivates the team to provide a high-quality camp experience while implementing the camp’s safety policies and procedures and promoting an inclusive, positive environment. The position reports to the Community Education Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree-seeking student, enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at CC or a partnership institution. 21 years old or older
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field or equivalent experience with youth programs or camps – graduate students encouraged to apply
Ability to relate to and communicate well with children
Ability to supervise counselors and campers and work as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to provide emotional support to campers struggling with adjustment to the camp environment
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize assigned work and to solve complex problems
A valid driver’s license
Ability to pass a background check
