A Year of Pride: Casper College Queer Alliance Approaches a Milestone

The Casper College Queer Alliance is approaching its anniversary as a student-led club supporting LGBTQIA+ students and allies. Since its vibrant return in January 2025, the club has grown into a welcoming community focused on inclusion, connection, and education, led by the dedicated executive board: President Leo Scott, he/they, Vice President Eris Jaworski, she/they, Secretary Freya Saunders, they, and Treasurer Skylar Gilmore, she/her.
Last semester marked an exciting new chapter. Members celebrated the reinstatement with a club logo design contest, won by Jackie Marsh, she/they, and embarked on their first spring break trip to Denver. The club stayed active over the summer, hosting musician Inda Eaton on campus and attending the Community Pride Fest hosted by Casper Pride. These experiences strengthened the club’s sense of identity and connection, setting the stage for continued growth and creativity.
Behind the scenes, the scrapbook committee has been capturing photos, reflections, and artwork that celebrate the resilience and joy of Casper College’s LGBTQIA+ community. More than a memory keeper, the scrapbook resists historical erasure, creating a lasting record of voices too often overlooked while affirming the presence and impact of LGBTQIA+ students and allies.
This semester, Queer Alliance has kept the energy high with events blending fun, friendship, and learning; from ice cream socials and indoor picnics to craft nights, safety trainings, movie nights, and Trans Day of Remembrance activities; each gathering strengthening connection, self-expression, and belonging on campus.
A major highlight this fall is the creation of the TransMittee, a new committee amplifying trans and gender-nonconforming voices. Funded by a Campaign for Southern Equality mini-grant, the TransMittee will lead programs including Trans Awareness Week, Trans Day of Visibility, and educational trainings on gender identity and pronoun awareness. These initiatives aim to increase visibility, support, and understanding across campus.
Looking ahead, Queer Alliance will host Drag Bingo on Monday, Dec. 1, from 6–8 p.m. in the T-Bird Nest, featuring entertainment by Jolene from the Bank, prizes, snacks, and a cash-only raffle. Donations will support the club’s next spring break trip to Denver, where members will explore the city’s cultural and artistic landscape. Contributions can be made through the Casper College Foundation link, selecting Queer Alliance.
As the Queer Alliance celebrates its first year, it remains committed to fostering community, celebrating diversity, and building a more inclusive campus for all.
The T-Bird Nest is located in the Casper College Student Union/University of Wyoming at Casper building on the Casper College campus.
