My bio

Dr. Zachary Vreeman joined the faculty of Casper College in the fall of 2013 as the Director of Choral Activities. He conducts all four choirs at Casper College, including the Collegiate Chorale, Men’s and Women’s Choirs, and the Casper College Contemporary Singers, and also teaches music education and private voice. Dr. Vreeman is also the Choirmaster at First Presbyterian Church (EPC) in Casper. He has held previous teaching and conducting positions at the University of Wyoming, the University of Nebraska—Lincoln, the Nebraska Choral Arts Society, and Grace Christian School in his hometown of Anchorage, Alaska. Dr. Vreeman received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Music Education from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, and his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Nebraska. Known for his energy and engaging programming, Dr. Vreeman appears frequently as a clinician and adjudicator at festivals in the region. His research interests are many, but a focus on the structure and performance of texts in choral music grow out of his doctoral research into the music of Randall Thompson, particularly Thompson’s largely forgotten masterpiece, Requiem. He is also an active singer, as a member of several professional chamber choirs, including the Colorado Bach Ensemble and Abendchor in Lincoln, Nebraska. When not conducting or singing, Dr. Vreeman keeps quite busy with his wife and four young children.
