My bio

I graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1992 with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. I worked for ARCO Oil and Gas in Bakersfield, California as a Facilities Engineer and Plant Supervisor. In 1996, my wife and I relocated to Casper, Wyoming where I took a position as a Design Engineer in the Product Development and Manufacturing Group at Woodworker’s Supply. My duties include conceptual sketching, solid modeling, prototyping and manufacturing of woodworking tools.

I became an adjunct instructor at Casper College in 2000, teaching CNC Programming and Computer Aided Manufacturing classes at night while continuing to work in industry during the day. In the fall of 2008, I accepted a full time position teaching classes in the Drafting and Design/Machine Tool Technology programs at Casper College. I continue to work part time as a Senior Design Engineer at Woodworker’s Supply.

I use SolidWorks in my CAD classes and emphasize the aspect of design. CAD software has made it relatively easy to create solid models of parts, but the importance of being able to manufacturer the parts is often overlooked. I believe great designers know how to manufacture the parts they model and this knowledge enables the student to design for manufacture, which is extremely important in today’s competitive manufacturing environment.

I’m the Technical Coordinator Chair of the SkillsUSA Precision Machining and Mechanical Drafting Competition for the state of Wyoming. We host these competitions at our Casper College campus. I’m also an affiliate partner of the Wyoming FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics organization.
