Explore engaging experiences and discover something new in June at Casper College through community education. Classes offered include Beginning Quilting, Effortless Weeknight Meals: Soups, Sip and Shake, Enhancing Mobility, Bike Maintenance, Beginner Plant Propagation, Journey to the West, and more.

“Casper College’s Community Education program is thrilled to offer a wide range of exciting classes this June. Whether you enjoy the outdoors and nature, are interested in cooking and the arts, or are looking for a unique Father’s Day gift, there’s something for everyone,” said Zhanna Gallegos, community education coordinator.

Participants in Beginning Quilting will learn to use essential quilting tools, such as rotary cutters and quilting rulers, as they stitch their way into the world of quilting and become comfortable with machine piecing. According to instructor Cindy Huckfeldt, students will sew a simple quilt top while building both their technique and confidence with every stitch. The pattern is provided, but everyone needs to bring a sewing machine, a 6.5×12-inch or larger quilting ruler, a rotary cutter, cotton thread, pins, scissors, an 18×24-inch or larger rotary cutting mat, and a project box. Beginning Quilting is suitable for beginners and will be held Wednesday from 6-9 p.m., June 3-24.

In Effortless Weeknight Meals: Soups, taught by McKlayne Moss, students will learn to prepare quick, high-quality dinners and lunches and build a repertoire of easy, adaptable recipes that take an hour or less. The class will help students avoid stress at mealtimes with dishes such as chili, French onion, and more. All supplies are provided, and a notebook is suggested for recipes. Effortless Weeknight Meals: Soups will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 6-7.

A great opportunity awaits those who want to enjoy a fun blend of socializing, beverages, and dancing. “Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced dancer, the instructor guides you through various dance styles, from classic to contemporary,” said Gallegos. The class, Sip and Shake, will allow attendees to meet new people, build their confidence, and have fun with friends while sipping tasty mocktails and exploring new dance combinations led by instructor Erin Brown. All supplies are provided, no alcohol is served, and the class is suitable for all levels. Sip and Shake will be held Monday and Wednesday, June 8-17, from 5:30-7 p.m.

For those planning a summer hiking adventure, Enhancing Mobility is a class that uses low-intensity interval training to improve cardiovascular and respiratory health. Instructor Electa Milnichak noted that students will explore dynamic movements that target smaller accessory muscles, often neglected until they cause pain or limited mobility. The class will help students improve mobility and joint health through simple, everyday stretches, with anatomy and physiology tips. The class will be held Monday and Wednesday, June 8 through July 1, from 5:45-6:45 p.m.

For those preparing for the upcoming cycling season who would like to learn essential brake and drivetrain maintenance to enhance performance, reduce downtime, and prevent costly repairs, Bike Maintenance Beginner is being offered Wednesday, June 10 and 17, from 6:30-8 p.m. Taught by Colton Shippen, participants will “Gain hands-on experience with basic trailside fixes and learn what tools and supplies to carry for emergencies,” he said. All participants are asked to bring their bike to each class.

Learn how to propagate plants in Beginner Plant Propagation, taught by Nicole Roby. “Explore three propagation methods, their pros and cons, along with the proper steps for successful rooting, growth, and basic feeding,” said Roby. Each student will take a new plant home and discover an easy, affordable way to expand their garden without great expense. Beginner Plant Propagation will be held Saturday, June 13 and 20, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Finally, Journey to the West offers participants a chance to explore local historic pioneer sites in and around the Casper area associated with the Oregon, Mormon, California, and Pony Express trails, with National Historic Trails Interpretive Center staff, according to Gallegos. The class will take place Tuesday, June 30, beginning at 8 a.m. Journey to the West is kid-friendly and suitable for those 10 and older who can handle uneven terrain. There is no wheelchair access and limited rest stops.
