New accounting scholarship established at Casper College

A new scholarship for Casper College accounting majors has been set up through the Casper College Foundation.

The Nick John Noell Accounting Scholarship is open to all Casper College accounting majors from Wyoming who are taking 12 or more credit hours and have a 3.0 GPA. A $2500 scholarship will be awarded to four students each year.

The scholarship is named in honor of Casperite Nick Noell, who following graduation from Natrona County High School, graduated from Casper College with his Associate of Science in accounting in 1966.

“Later, he would attribute his time at Casper College and his accounting degree as a stepping stone to his success. Coming from a modest household, Casper College provided a local, affordable option to continue his education while living at home. Without it, he might not have had the opportunity to push his career further,” said his widow, Vicki Noell.

According to Mrs. Noell, Nick Noell transferred to the University of Denver and earned his Bachelor of Science in business administration with a major in finance. “He procured an internship at Samsonite Corporation in his senior year, and upon graduation, Samsonite offered him a position in corporate finance,” said Mrs. Noell.

That internship led to a successful 26-year tenure at Samsonite, where he oversaw 50% of the company’s sales. Then, unfortunately, his career was cut short due to his untimely death in 1994. But, according to Mrs. Noell, his family has never forgotten his affinity and gratitude for the education he received from Casper College.

“In his memory, (the family has) established a scholarship for four recipients to pursue their education in accounting at Casper College. It is the family’s pleasure to provide students the same springboard of opportunity and pay forward the gift of education,” Mrs. Noell noted.
