Six CC employees receive honors

Six Casper College employees were recognized with 2019-2020 year-end honors during the college’s fall convocation Aug. 19.

Julie Hansen, academic assistant for the Casper College School of Science, was recognized with the Robert Durst Classified Staff Award. The award is designed to recognize a classified staff member who demonstrates an outstanding service reputation in their job performance, knowledge, effectiveness, character, communication, cooperation, judgment, and interactions.

The Outstanding Administrator of the Year was Joanne Theobald, former director of counseling. This award is designed to recognize an administrator who demonstrates an outstanding service reputation through job performance, knowledge, effectiveness, character, communication, cooperation, judgment, and interactions. The nominee must have completed a minimum of two years of service as an administrator at Casper.

The Judith Bailey Scully Award recipient was Mike Olson, ceramics instructor. Established by Casper College Alumnus Marlan O. Scully in honor of his wife Judith, the award recognizes faculty who demonstrate academic excellence as characterized by Judith’s outstanding accomplishments as a Casper College and University of Wyoming student.

The Shanklin Faculty Leadership Award, named for longtime Casper College emeritus psychology instructor Garth Shanklin, promotes recognition of full-time and part-time Casper College teaching faculty who display exceptional commitment to teaching and have made significant collegial contributions to the college. The winner of the full-time recognition was Nick DeSalvo, former mathematics instructor, and the part-time winner was Daniel Gallegos, political science instructor.

Finally, Olson and Andrew Young, physics instructor, were both recognized with the Rosenthal Outstanding Educator Award. To be chosen for the award, the recipients must possess qualities of an outstanding educator, document participation in professional organizations and/or activities, and take an active role in community and/or out-of-school cultural activities.
