Men’s basketball head coach Dan Russell announced today that he’s accepted a position as an assistant coach at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.

Russell accumulated a record of 145 and 52 (.736) in five seasons while head coach of the Thunderbirds finishing his final season with an NJCAA Region IX championship title. While at Casper College, Russell served as an assistant coach for five years and five more years as head coach.

“We are proud of the opportunity Dan has in front of him to coach at the university level,” said vice president of student services, Kim Byrd. “We’ll certainly miss him and wish him well in all his pursuits.”

The Casper College Thunderbirds have been a formidable force in collegiate basketball since their beginning in 1945.

“Certainly, we have established a solid tradition with basketball at Casper College and will be looking for a head coach that can continue that tradition,” said Byrd.

The college will immediately begin looking for a head coach for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
