Garner Receives CHE Designation

Ginny Garner, Casper College marketing and hospitality management instructor, has been awarded the Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) designation from the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute.

To receive the designation, Garner was required to attend a 40-hour workshop, pass a 100-question written examination following the workshop, and submit a 60-minute teaching video, which was evaluated on 50 different teaching components. She passed both with a score of 75 percent or higher.

“Obtaining the CHE has taught me how to design all of my classes in a systematic approach by creating each lesson based off an identified objective, then implementing the lesson with text, case studies, and examples generated from relevant research both academic and industry-based,” said Garner. “This designation also puts me in the company with other CHE instructors and professors across the country and around the world at community colleges and the top universities, so as a community we can develop and deliver the highest quality hospitality education available,” she noted.

“We are really proud of Ginny and her accomplishment,” said Lesley Travers, dean for the School of Business and Industry at Casper College. “With this additional training she will be able to provide students with a higher level of knowledge and teaching in the field of hospitality.”
