Casper College is celebrating the culture and heritage of China on Thursday, March 26, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The Casper College Community Education Department is hosting the event as part of its International Dinner Series.
The evening will feature authentic Chinese cuisine, educational displays, and two engaging presentations, according to Zhanna Gallegos, community education coordinator. “Participants will explore Chinese astronomy, from the Shang dynasty to comet Tsuchinshan, with Andrew Young, Ph.D., Casper College astronomy instructor. Then, they will experience the spirit of the country through a presentation on Chinese holiday traditions by Fengxiang Shi,” said Gallegos.
By studying China’s culture, participants will gain a deeper understanding of others’ experiences and viewpoints. “We’re excited to explore the unique traditions and customs of this country,” noted Gallegos.
China plays a major role in today’s global economy, politics, and cultural exchange. With a continuous civilization spanning five millennia and a population exceeding 1.4 billion, it has rapidly emerged as a technological and economic superpower. Its history includes inventions such as paper, gunpowder, the compass, and printing. Influenced by Confucianism, Chinese culture values family, hierarchy, and harmony.
“We invite the community to join us as we celebrate China’s culture and heritage at Casper College,” Gallegos said.
The cost per person for the Casper College Community Education Department’s International Dinner Series is $42. No alcohol will be served. The registration deadline is Monday, March 16, and each participant must register and pay for this event separately.
