Who can use these materials?
The center is available to anyone who wants to research our local history. It is used regularly by students, members of the general public, professional historians, journalists and genealogists.
How are the collections used?
The collections have been used to research:
Businesses have obtained historic photographs for display. Some patrons simply enjoy browsing through historical photographs of the Casper area.
Why can't I check items out?
The college has accepted the responsibility of preserving these materials and providing access to them, for both current and future generations. Much of the material would be difficult or impossible to replace and some will become rare with the passage of time. Therefore all materials must be used while in the Western History Center department. None can be checked out and none are available through loan.
Duplicates of some items may be found in the library's circulating collection and those copies may be checked out.
How can I acquire access to the collections?
Materials are generally available only when the archivist is on duty.
Is an appointment necessary?
Appointments are not required, but are strongly recommended. However, if you need archival materials it is a good idea to call ahead to be sure the archivist will be available.
What if I want to use the archival materials and find your office hours inconvenient?
A special appointment can be made to meet with you during any hours when the library building is open. Please send an email message to wyoref@caspercollege.edu or call 268-2680 to request the appointment.
Out of town visitors and those with urgent needs may call the Western History Archivist at either 307-268-2680 or 307-251-5931.
Why can't anyone else on the staff help me with the archival materials while I am here?
The Western History Archivist has archival training, experience, and a thorough knowledge of the collection.
Although library resources are separate from the Western History Center, the library may have resources that will be of value to you.
