Share Your History With Future Generations

But my stuff isn’t old.  Why are you interested?
The materials don’t have to be old or rare to be of interest for historical research.  Any information that will help researchers to understand our Wyoming heritage is of value.

I only have one or two items.  Is it worth the effort?
Definitely.  A single item can often make the difference in understanding and interpreting events in the past.

What would you do with the materials that I donate?
We would:

  • Organize them (that’s right—you don’t have to!)
  • Preserve them in a secure area with a controlled environment (steady temperature and humidity)
  • Catalog and index them
  • Provide access for research
  • Assure that researchers give you, your family, or your organization credit when using the materials
  • Protect your privacy.  Sensitive or personal material would be returned to you or could be marked for restricted access for a designated period of time.

What if I want to keep the materials in the family?
We will be happy to discuss options with you.  We understand and
encourage your desire to pass your heritage on to your descendants.
One way of doing this is to make the materials publicly available, so that you and your descendants will have access to them for generations to come.

  • If you are willing to donate the originals, we can make high-quality copies for you to keep.
  • If you wish to keep the originals, please consider allowing us to borrow the originals in order to make high-resolution copies of any items that copyright allows.

Who would use the materials?
Just about anyone, including:

  • Students
  • Historians, scholars, writers
  • Researchers
  • Television and documentary producers
  • People researching their homes
  • Individuals and businesses seeking photos to frame
  • Genealogists

What if I want to donate materials that don’t meet your collecting guidelines?
We will be happy to consult with you and make recommendations of other repositories or organizations that could help.
