Student logon to Academic Network

Effective June 2004

Casper College Students:

Casper College students will log onto campus computers using the Web Advisor login.   Their password will be the initial Web Advisor Pin Numbers.  Students can obtain their Web Advisor login and password from their Academic Advisors or the Admissions office.

For Example
A student named Willy Makeit enrolled at Casper College with a Web Advisor Pin number of 012345, at the login prompt will type:

wmakeit

At the password prompt will type: 012345

UW/CC Students:  Contact Dan Straka

University of North Dakota

Universtiy of North Dakota students type ND plus 6 digits of their North Dakota ID number minus any leading zeros.

For example:  A student enrolled named Joe Bob at University of North Dakota with a North Dakota student ID number of 605948-2, at the login prompt will type:

ND605948

At the password prompt will type: jb

WINDOWS XP:  After logging into Novell, you will see a Windows XP login with a username of CC. Click OK. (You cannot press escape nor choose Cancel.)

To Change Passwords
To maintain security and privacy, students should change their passwords after the initial login. To do so, Click on the Start button on the Status line, Choose Programs, Choose MS-DOS Prompt. At the DOS Prompt, type setpass, and then follow the instructions. To choose a password, use at least 6 digits. Do not use names. It is best to choose a combination of letters and digits that have no meaning to anyone but you.

To Log Off:  When the student has completed work on the computer, it is important they follow the steps below in the order listed:

Be at the desktop --

For Windows 98 machines: (PS106, PS104, LS104, HS211, CE130, CE 132)

Choose Start on the status line. Choose log off "username". At the prompt "Are you sure you want to log off?" Click on yes. Log on screen comes up. Leave machine at that point unless you're shutting down for the day.

Windows XP machines:( BU404, BU125, PS224, LS117, AD6, KT152, BU122, BU127, PS325-327, EI104-105, LI205)

Choose Start on the status line. Click on Log Off. At the prompt "Are you sure you want to log off?" Choose "Log Off" , Click OK.  (Both steps must be complete to log the student off of the server. If these steps are not completed, anyone can use the student's account.)
                       

To Shutdown Windows 98:

Be at the desktop (clouds on blue sky) and double-click the "Shutdown" icon.

To Shutdown Windows XP

Click on Start on the Status Bar.  Choose Shutdown.  At the prompt "What do you want the computer to do?" from the drop box chose "Shutdown".  Windows 2000 and Windows XP will shut your computer OFF.  The monitor goes into safe mode.  Turn off the monitor by pressing the button on the front of the monitor.  It's OK if you leave it in safe mode.

If Student Can't Log on:

Files are updated daily during the first week of school, thereafter will be updated weekly. Contact Dan Straka, x2399, with any account problems
