Casper College Head Basketball Coach Dan Russell announced Tuesday that he has signed two more players to national junior college letters of intent.

Russell says Jalen Canty, a highly sought after athlete from Vallejo, Calif., will play for the Thunderbirds next fall. Canty, a 6-8, 250-pound forward, originally signed a letter of intent to play football for Division I Washington State. “He realized that basketball is his first love,” Russell says. “He is super athletic and versatile. Coach (Mike) Plank (assistant) did a great job of recruiting Jalen. I have no doubt that when he gets in real shape he will help us win games.”

Canty played for the Oakland Soldiers AAU team, which has helped produce Division I and even NBA talent. He played his prep ball at St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School.

Russell says Abrian Edwards, a 6-5 wingman from Pflugerville, Texas, will also play for the T-Birds. Edwards is a sharp shooting two-guard who averaged 23 points and four assists his senior season of high school. He is the 20th-ranked recruit in Texas according to Russell says junior college powers Southern Idaho, Indian Hills, Paris, and Midland were all recruiting Edwards.

“Abrian is a big physical guard/forward who can play a lot of positions. He is extremely athletic and extremely competitive,” Russell says. “He gives us a lot of versatility and will hopefully have a big impact for us next season.”

Russell says he has virtually wrapped up his recruiting class for his upcoming second season at the T-Bird helm.
