OLLI Summer Registration Set for May 24

OLLI Summer Registration

The “Sizzlin’ Summer Sign-Up” for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Casper College will be held on Wednesday, May 24 with both online and in-person registration.

Those who became members by May 10 will receive a registration time in the mail. “For those who do not get a registration time, or who plan to join OLLI when they register, they may come to the Chapman Lobby, located in the Walter H. Nolte Gateway Center, to join and/or register between 5 and 6 p.m.,” said Vicki Pollock, lifetime learning specialist.

This year’s summer offerings include classes, day trips, and the ever popular “Dinner and a Movie.” “We have tried to come up with a wide variety of topics to appeal to as many folks as we can this summer,” said Pollock, who noted that more than 30 classes would be offered.

“Keeping it Real: Myths and Facts About Raw Milk” (OLLI 3011) will take participants to a working dairy operation. Those attending will “learn about raw milk from a local producer, the owner of Udder Chaos, and also learn about the health benefits of real milk and how it is used to make other dairy products such as yogurt, cheese, and ghee,” Pollock said.

“Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary” (OLLI 5011) will take participants to the unique sanctuary to see firsthand how a variety of animals used in laboratory research are rehabilitated. Proving to be popular last summer, “It’s a Prairie Dog’s Life” (OLLI 5013) taught by India Hayford returns. OLLIs will learn why these rabbit-sized rodents are a keystone species of the American West.

Steve and Libby Kurtz will return with “Tour d’OLLI: Group Bicycle Rides” (OLLI 3001). Rides will take place at different locations along the Platte River Trail System each week. Popular instructor George Vlastos will present a new offering, “Greek Coffee and Desserts (OLLI 7090), where those attending will learn how to make Greek desserts and Greek coffee. Lance Jones will also return with a new class that will look at evil warlords, generals, and politicians in “The Dark Side of Leadership” (OLLI 7031).

For those unable to register on Wednesday, registrations will be taken by phone at 307-268-2097 or in person at the OLLI office, Room 408 in the Nolte Gateway Center beginning Thursday, May 25. The center is located on the Casper College campus.
