Rapid City Central High School sensation Mya Jones has committed to play ball for the Lady T-Birds beginning with the 2017-18 season.

According to Lady T-Bird Head Coach Dwight Gunnare, Jones has had an illustrious career on the Cobbler team having been named twice as the Cobbler’s MVP and defensive player of the year. During her junior and senior seasons, she led her team to a 6th and 4th place finish respectively at the South Dakota State AA Tournament. In 2017 she was named to the South Dakota State AA All-Tournament Team. Jones has been playing varsity basketball since her eighth-grade year and is the only player in program history to be a five-year letter winner. She averaged 8.2 points per game and led the Cobblers in deflections and blocked shots. In March Jones was named the Powerade Athlete of the Week.

“Mya is skilled and athletic; however, it is her versatility, competitiveness, and the energy she plays with that excite me the most,” said Gunnare, adding that “She is the type of player that can impact a game in so many different ways. She comes from a strong basketball program and is very well coached. I have no doubt that she is ready to play at the collegiate level.”
