Health Insurance information for International Students

When you enter college in a country other than your own for the first time, there are many things that are new, confusing and overwhelming. Casper College wants to help you understand and work with our customs and laws. One of the more confusing things you may have to deal with in this country is health care.

Health care in the United States is completely different than most other countries. Physicians do not work for the government. Everyone has to pay for their own health care and insurance. There is no government insurance policy or program for people who are sick or injured. Medical costs in the U.S. are very high compared with many other countries. Consequently, having adequate health insurance in the U.S. is extremely important.

Casper College requires all international students to carry some form of health insurance. The Student Health Insurance offered by Casper College is through SAS (Student Assurance Services) and is underwritten by Columbian Life Insurance Company. If you have health insurance in your home country and if that insurance will cover health care expenses in the United States, it is acceptable to present documentation of this insurance.

The Student Health Insurance offered at Casper College is designed to give the best possible coverage for the lowest premium. Coverage for this International Student Accident and Sickness Plan includes lifetime maximum benefits of $250,000 and coverage for medical evacuation and/or repatriation to the home country and is available for the 2006/2007 school year for:

You may request an enrollment form from Casper College or the SAS website (www.sas-mn.com).

You must purchase the policy offered by Casper College or show proof of insurance honored in the U.S. in the Student Health Office at College Center room 221, by the end of the second week (Friday) of the semester. Your will be considered "out of status" if you do not comply with proof of insurance by this date.
