CLEP

Casper College is a testing center for the College Level Examination Program.The cost is $65 for each test.You are permitted to take more than one CLEP test during a testing session.

ACT

To take English and math courses at Casper College, you must have scores on either the ACT, SAT or COMPASS exams or transferable College Coursework.The ACT affords an evaluation of the student's ability for academic college work in such areas as Math, English, Science,and Reading. These test scores, along with a transcripts, will help the student register for their College classes.

SAT

This test is offered nationwide. Information on the test dates, cost, and test locations can be found at www.collegeboard.com/splash.

COMPASS

A new student who has not completed the ACT or SAT , must take the COMPASS exam. The COMPASS exam consists of 3 parts (Math, Writing, and Reading). This exam is done on the computer and there is a $10.00 fee . A calculator can used for the Math portion of the exam.On average the exam takes takes approximately 2 hours. To take the COMPASS exam,come to the Administration Building, Room 112 (Student Services)or call 268-2201 or 268- 2366. The COMPASS exam is offered Monday through Friday, 7:30am-3:00pm. No appointment is necessary and this is a first come, first served basis. Appointments may be made for Thursday night testing at 5:30pm only.

GED

Casper College is a test center for administering the GED Test. These tests are administered under the direction of the State Department of Education for the purpose of measuring educational equivalence at the high school graduation level. On the basis of the test results, the State Department of Education may issue a High School Equivalency Diploma. Satisfactory test results may enable the diploma holder to enroll in an institution of higher learning, to better oneself in the field of employment, or to meet military service entrance requirements.

The applicant must physically reside in the State of Wyoming and not have received a high school diploma at the time of his/her high school class graduation. Applicants, age 18 or over, must contact the testing center which is located in the Counseling & Student Development Center (Administration Building Room 112).

Applicants who are at least 17 years of age, and whose graduating class has not graduated, must make a formal waiver request to the state GED Administrator, Wyoming State Department of Education, Hathaway Building, Cheyenne, WY 82002-0050.

How to apply for a waiver: The Adult Education Program is available to assist any student needing to go through the age waiver process. This office is located in the Werner Technical Building, Room 115 and their phone number is 268-2230.

A pre-test appointment with the official Casper College GED testing agent is required. To set up an appointment, please call Kim Byrd, at 268-2255. Any individual desiring to take the GED must show a picture I.D. to the test proctor prior to the test. No GED will be administered without proper pictorial identification!

The GED exam covers five basic areas:

  • Interpreting Literature and Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Writing Skills

Time Required: From one to two hours should be allowed for each test or about eight hours for the total test battery.

These tests are given on Thursdays only.

Cost: A fee of $50.00 is required. This fee must be paid prior to testing. If retesting is needed, a fee of $10.00 will be charged for each test which is retaken.

Assistance in preparing for the GED is available on Wednesdays from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday and Thursdays from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Tuesday and Fridays from 7:30am to 3:00 pm. The classes are located in the Werner Technical Building, Room 115. There is no cost to the individual who participates in this program. This service is only available during the Fall and Spring semester. For further information about the Center, please call 268-2230.
