MINE SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT (MSHA)
Casper College offers the 8-Hour MSHA Refresher and the 24-Hour MSHA New-Miner Training class every month. Call 268-2085 for further information.

The training activities of the following hazardous materials classes are potentially stressful. Participants are required to wear a fully encapsulated suit, a self-contained breathing apparatus, and a full-face mask. The gear may weigh up to 45 pounds. Participants must perform hands-on activities with special emphasis on conditions involving pulmonary, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal systems. Casper College offers the 8-Hour MSHA Refresher and the 24-Hour MSHA New-Miner Training class every month. Call 268-2085 for further information.

• 8-Hour MSHA Annual Refresher
  All miners must have a minimum of eight hours of annual refresher training (MSHA 30 CFR 48.28). Topics covered include mandatory health and safety standards; transportation controls and communication systems; escape and emergency evacuation plans; fire warning and firefighting; ground control; working in areas of high walls, water hazards, pits, and spoil banks; illumination and night work; first aid; electrical hazards; accident prevention; health; explosives; and self-rescue and respiratory devices. You must take the annual refresher in or before your expiration month.

• 24-Hour MSHA New Miner
  All new surface miners must have 24 hours of training (MSHA 30 CFR 48.25/46.5). Topics covered include statutory rights of miners and their representatives; authority and responsibility of supervisors; self-rescue and respiratory devices; transportation controls and communication systems; introduction to work environment; escape and emergency evacuation plans; fire warning and firefighting; ground control; working in areas of high walls, water hazards, pits, and spoil banks; illumination and night work; health; electrical hazards; first aid; explosives; and health and safety aspects of tasks assigned to new miners.
